Read this before you drive
LastWagon helps you plan a trip and find a place to park. It is a driver-assistance and trip-planning tool.
It is not a guarantee that any route is legal, safe, or physically passable by your truck.
No routing service — not openrouteservice, not HERE, not Google Maps, not LastWagon — knows your truck, your load, or the road in front of you the way you do. Software works from a map. You work from the road.
If the app and the road disagree, the road wins. Every time.
1. What you are responsible for
Using LastWagon does not move any of your legal responsibilities onto LastWagon. As the driver, you remain solely responsible for:
The road in front of you
- Posted road signs, and every restriction they carry
- Bridge and overpass clearances, and posted bridge weight limits
- Roads posted as closed to commercial vehicles or to through trucks
- Construction, detours, temporary closures, and lane restrictions
- Weather, road surface, visibility, and whether it is safe to keep going
- Instructions from law enforcement, DOT officers, and highway personnel — which override anything on your screen
Your truck and your load
- Gross vehicle weight and gross combination weight
- Axle weights and axle spacing
- Vehicle height, including your actual loaded height, not your empty height
- Vehicle width, including mirrors and any projecting load
- Vehicle length, including the combination and any overhang
- Hazardous-material placarding, routing, and restrictions
- Any permit your dimensions, weight, or load require, and its routing conditions
The law and your hours
- Hours-of-Service compliance, including whether you are legal to keep driving to the stop LastWagon just showed you
- All applicable federal, state, tribal, and local laws and regulations
- Your carrier's own policies and routing instructions
- Safe operation of the vehicle at all times
LastWagon does not verify any of this, and cannot.
2. What the routing actually is
LastWagon offers two routing services. Both are supplied by third parties, and neither one guarantees legal passage.
Basic routing uses openrouteservice, operated by HeiGIT gGmbH, over OpenStreetMap data. It uses a heavy-goods-vehicle profile and will take your entered dimensions into account where the underlying map data carries a restriction. OpenStreetMap is a volunteer-maintained map. Restriction data varies enormously by region, and a road with no recorded restriction is not the same as a road with no restriction.
Premium routing uses HERE, a commercial map provider with its own truck-attribute data. It is generally more complete than the Basic path for commercial-vehicle restrictions. It is still map data, it can still be wrong or out of date, and HERE's own terms state that HERE products "are not intended to be relied upon in situations where precise data is needed or where inaccurate or incomplete data may lead to death, personal injury."
Neither service is represented by LastWagon as guaranteeing that a route is legal for your vehicle. Enter your truck's real dimensions, and then check the road anyway.
Google Maps
Where LastWagon offers to hand a destination to Google Maps or another maps app, that is an external, general-purpose maps application. It is not truck routing. It does not know your height, weight, length, or load, and it will route you under bridges you do not fit under. LastWagon labels this in the app wherever it is offered, and offers it only as a convenience for the last mile or for a driver who has asked for it.
3. What "truck stop" and "parking" mean here
LastWagon's truck-stop and rest-area directory is compiled from several sources of different ages. A business may have changed hands, hours, services, or closed entirely since the record was compiled. Verify before you commit to a stop, especially late at night.
Parking capacity is how big a lot is understood to be — a listed or recorded space count. It is not a live count, and it is not a promise that any of those spaces are open.
Community parking status — the green, amber and red indicators — is other drivers' recent observations, submitted by hand, and nothing more. It can be wrong, stale, incomplete, or deliberately false. A grey or unlit indicator means nobody has reported recently; it does not mean the lot is empty, and it does not mean it is full.
Never plan your last legal hour of driving around a parking colour on a screen. Have a second option.
4. Do not use this app while driving
Interacting with a phone while operating a commercial motor vehicle is restricted by federal regulation and by state law, and it kills people.
- Plan your route, your stops and your parking before you roll, or while parked.
- If something needs your attention on screen, stop somewhere safe first.
- Use voice guidance and audible prompts rather than looking at the display.
- Mount your device where it does not obstruct your view.
Nothing in LastWagon is urgent enough to be worth reading at 65 mph.
5. Beta software
LastWagon is beta software. It may contain defects, may change, may be interrupted, and may produce incorrect routes, incorrect directions, or incorrect information about a truck stop or a parking area.
Beta status is a warning to you. It is not an excuse for us, and it does not reduce your responsibility for the vehicle.
6. Offline and outdated data
The truck-stop directory works offline and is built into the app, which means it is as current as the version you installed. Routing needs a network connection; if you lose coverage mid-trip, guidance continues from the route already calculated, and that route does not know about anything that has changed since.
7. Emergencies
LastWagon is not an emergency service. It cannot call for help, it does not monitor your location, and nobody is watching your trip. In an emergency, call 911.
