1. What Premium actually is
LastWagon Premium is a separate, HERE-powered service inside LastWagon. The routing, the map, the search and the place data in Premium come from HERE Global B.V. and its data suppliers — not from LastWagon.
LastWagon builds Premium on the HERE SDK for Android, Explore Edition (4.27.x), and uses:

2. HERE's terms apply to you, directly
Because HERE Content reaches you, HERE requires that you be given conspicuous notice of, and access to, its own End User Terms, and that you assent to them, before you use HERE Content.
LastWagon therefore asks you to accept these before Premium first uses HERE — not at app launch, and never for drivers who only use Basic.

Declining is a real choice. Premium features stay off; everything in Basic keeps working exactly as before.
HERE's own safety statement
HERE's End User Terms state that location or map data, directions and other features may be inaccurate, and that HERE products are not intended to be relied upon where inaccurate or incomplete data may lead to death or personal injury. LastWagon's Navigation & Safety Notice says the same thing in a driver's language, and it applies to Premium exactly as it applies to Basic.
3. What LastWagon sends to HERE
The HERE SDK runs on your phone and talks to HERE directly, not through LastWagon's server. HERE therefore sees your device's IP address. See Privacy Policy § 8 for the full list of what is sent.
4. Attribution
The HERE logo is rendered by the HERE SDK on every HERE map view and must stay visible. LastWagon does not remove it, does not hide it, and does not draw over it. HERE's terms prohibit removing or obfuscating HERE marks and copyright notices.
During active Premium navigation, LastWagon's guidance cockpit draws a telemetry panel along the map's bottom edge — the corner where the SDK places the logo by default. So that the panel never covers the logo, the app raises the watermark, using the SDK's own setWatermarkLocation placement API, to sit just above whatever the cockpit draws — still at the right edge, at the SDK's own size and appearance, fully visible in every navigation state, including the off-route display. When nothing covers the map, the watermark sits in its usual bottom-right corner. *Owner decision 2026-08-28, recorded here as scripts/legal-check.mjs requires; the repository guards permit exactly this one call site and still fail any other use of a watermark-placement API.*
Where HERE-derived results appear outside a map — a HERE truck-stop search result, a HERE address, a HERE route — LastWagon marks them as HERE-derived so their origin can be told apart from LastWagon's own directory.

5. Caching: the 48-hour rule
LastWagon's policy: HERE-derived results are cached for no more than 48 hours.
This is LastWagon's own conservative limit, not a HERE requirement. The applicable HERE Platform Terms permit caching Results outside the platform for up to 30 days, with tighter limits for particular services — 24 hours for HERE Positioning services, and 24 hours for content and location services for Japan — and require that any caching directive on the response itself be respected.
The rule LastWagon applies is therefore:
**the shortest of: LastWagon's 48-hour policy, any stricter HERE limit for the specific
service, and any cache directive on the response.**
Today that resolves to 48 hours: LastWagon uses no HERE Positioning service and serves no Japan coverage, so no stricter HERE limit is in play.
What is cached, where, and for how long

How expiry is enforced. Every row carries an explicit expiry timestamp. Expired rows are deleted before any read returns and again before any save, so an expired trip is never served — it is deleted. Only one trip is kept at a time: starting a new one deletes the previous trip and everything HERE returned for it. Starting a route also clears it explicitly. The file is excluded from Android cloud backup and device transfer, so a cached trip cannot outlive its window by travelling to another phone. This is covered by automated tests.
Nothing else keeps HERE data. HERE routes are deliberately not written to LastWagon's saved route store — that store backs Basic mode, and a HERE route surfacing there would misattribute both the route and its provenance.
6. HERE data stays out of LastWagon's directory
**HERE Content and HERE Results are not used to create, populate, validate, correct, enrich,
enhance or maintain LastWagon's permanent bundled POI database.**
LastWagon's national truck-stop directory is its own compilation, built offline from the owner's master data with public-domain and OpenStreetMap geocoding. No HERE result is ever written into it, no HERE identifier is stored in it, and HERE is never used as a geocoding step for it. See Data Sources § 6 for how the separation is built and verified.
This matters in both directions. HERE's terms prohibit modifying HERE Content, making derivative works of it, and exposing HERE Materials to open-source licences that would force their disclosure. LastWagon's directory carries OpenStreetMap-derived coordinates under ODbL. Keeping the two apart is what lets both licences be satisfied at the same time.
7. If Premium changes
Premium depends on LastWagon's arrangement with HERE. If that changes or ends, Premium features may change or stop. Basic does not depend on HERE in any way.
