LastWagon is built on other people's work. This page credits it and carries the notices those providers require. Several of these are contractual conditions of LastWagon's access to that data — not courtesies — and they must not be removed or obscured.

Basic routing and address search

This exact string is the attribution HeiGIT requires wherever openrouteservice-derived content appears. In the app it is shown on the route planner, on resolved address fields, and with route results. API results are made available by openrouteservice under CC BY 4.0.

Satellite imagery (Basic map)

U.S. Geological Survey — The National Map, "USGS Imagery Only" orthoimagery, shown when you switch the truck-stop map to Satellite. Works of U.S. Government employees made in the course of their duties are in the public domain; USGS asks for a clear text credit in its standard form, which is:

On the map itself the credit is the service's own product line, which names both agencies behind the imagery:

It is drawn whenever the imagery is visible, alongside the basemap credit above, because the road names and shields over the photograph are still OpenFreeMap's. Coverage is the United States. LastWagon does not display the USGS identifier or logo, and nothing here implies USGS endorsement of or partnership with LastWagon.

Severe-weather alerts (Weather Ahead)

NOAA's National Weather Service, part of the U.S. Department of Commerce, through its public API at api.weather.gov. Works of U.S. Government employees made in the course of their duties are in the public domain, so no licence attaches to the alert text — the credit is given because a driver reading a warning is entitled to know whose warning it is.

The footer of the weather panel carries, wherever an alert is shown:

Coverage is the United States. LastWagon does not display the NOAA or National Weather Service identifier or logo, and nothing here implies that NOAA or the National Weather Service endorses, certifies, or is affiliated with LastWagon. The alert text and its timing are the service's; the decision about what to do with them is the driver's. See Data Sources § 13.

Weather radar (Truck Stops map)

Rainbow.ai, whose radar imagery is the animated overlay on the nationwide Truck Stops map when you switch Radar on.

Unlike the USGS imagery and the NWS alerts above, this is not public-domain government work. It is licensed imagery, and the credit is a condition of that licence rather than a courtesy: it must be visible wherever the imagery is rendered. Two places carry it, and both are drawn for exactly as long as radar is on the map — including while radar is failing:

in the map's attribution line, beside the basemap and satellite credits.

The imagery is fetched through the LastWagon proxy, never from Rainbow.ai directly, so no Rainbow.ai credential ships inside the app and no Rainbow.ai request carries a driver's device address. What the app asks the proxy for is a national radar tile; who asked for it does not travel onward.

Radar is off until a driver switches it on, appears on the Truck Stops map and nowhere else, and is deliberately not a forecast: it is three ten-minute observations of where precipitation already was, timestamped on screen so an older frame can never be read as the current one. Nothing here implies that Rainbow.ai endorses, certifies, or is affiliated with LastWagon, and nothing in the app presents radar as a basis for a safety decision — that judgement is the driver's.

OpenStreetMap

OpenStreetMap data reaches LastWagon three ways: through openrouteservice routing and geocoding, through the Basic map tiles, and — where marked in Data Sources — as a small number of geocoded coordinates in the bundled truck-stop directory.

Address geocoding fallback

U.S. Census Bureau Geocoding Services, used to place addresses the primary geocoder cannot resolve, and used offline to add coordinates to the bundled directory.

Census output is a work of the U.S. federal government and is in the public domain.

Diesel price benchmark (Driver Ledger)

U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA), weekly retail on-highway diesel prices, used to show a driver what they paid for fuel beside the published average.

The figure shown is the published value with the effective date EIA gave it — never interpolated, never re-dated, and shown as *unavailable* rather than estimated when EIA has no answer. Freight rate benchmark (Driver Ledger)

FreightPulse, per-equipment market rate per mile.

Not enabled. No agreement, licence, or attribution requirement is on record for this provider, so no freight rate is fetched or shown in any build; the comparison is simply absent. State boundaries (Driver Ledger mileage estimates)

U.S. Census Bureau cartographic boundary files, generalised, packaged via us-atlas and bundled in the app. They are what a planned route is measured against to estimate per-state mileage — on the device, from a local file, with no request to anyone.

This product uses U.S. Census Bureau cartographic boundary files but is not endorsed or

certified by the Census Bureau.

The boundary data is a U.S. federal government work in the public domain; the us-atlas packaging is ISC-licensed and its code is not shipped. Generalised boundaries are for drawing maps, not for describing a state line in law, and every mileage figure they produce is labelled an estimate until a driver confirms it. Weekly Smart Insights (Premium)

Sentences about a driver's own week are written by a large language model reached through the LastWagon proxy. Every number in a weekly review is LastWagon's own arithmetic on the driver's own records — the model is shown those figures and returns prose, and nothing it returns is parsed back into a number or written to a ledger record. Which model is used, what it is shown, what is metered, and what is not stored are set out in docs/ledger-insights.md.

Truck stops, rest areas and parking capacity

The bundled national directory is LastWagon's own compilation. Community parking status is contributed by LastWagon drivers. See Data Sources.

Open-source software

LastWagon is built with open-source software, principally the Android Jetpack and Compose libraries, the Kotlin standard library and coroutines, kotlinx.serialization, and MapLibre GL Native.

The complete, generated list of open-source components and their licence texts is in the app under Legal & Attribution → Open Source & Third-Party Notices, and is regenerated from the build's own dependency graph rather than maintained by hand. Removing attribution

Do not remove, obscure, cover, or reduce the legibility of any attribution, logo, watermark or notice displayed by LastWagon or by a provider's software. Several of them are conditions of LastWagon's licence to use that data, and one of them — the HERE logo — is guarded by a repository check (scripts/legal-check.mjs) that fails if the HERE map view is composed in a way that could suppress or relocate it out of view.
